Our Rupture Disk Group consists of manufacturing plants and
marketing centers located in three countries, on the North American
and European continents. Combined, we offer 90+ years of experience in the field of manufacturing rupture disks.
ZOOK operates the world’s largest
facility dedicated exclusively to the manufacturing of graphite rupture
disks. ZOOK's graphite rupture disk origins stem from our founder's pioneering
efforts into the development of graphite rupture disks for use as overpressure
protection devices on graphite heat exchangers during the 1950's. We are recognized
as the world's leader in the development and production of graphite rupture disks.
Our graphite facility is located in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, USA. This facility
was awarded the first issuance of an ASME "UD" stamp for graphite disks. Additionally,
ZOOK is certified in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 97/23/EC)
and can provide marked Graphite Rupture Disks. ZOOK is also certified in accordance to
TÜV standards
In November 1998, ZOOK strengthened its position
in the world's rupture disk markets through the acquisition of the graphite rupture disk business of Metaullics, Inc.
In September 1999, ZOOK purchased Process
Equipment Limited located in Burlington, Ontario Canada, manufacturers of the PROQUIP
trade name of metal rupture disks. PROQUIP began manufacturing metal rupture disks in
1952. PROQUIP is the 3rd oldest and experienced Metal disk manufacturer in number of years
in operation.
In 2000, ZOOK purchased Rupture Discs International (RDI)
a graphite rupture disk manufacturer located in Sheffield, England. RDI offers distribution
capabilities convenient to the European markets.
Through the merger of Process Equipment Ltd., trade named PROQUIP
and the acquisitions of Rupture Discs International trade named RDI and Metaullics Inc, product trade
named Impervite: ZOOK is positioned in a class of its own, manufacturing the most comprehensive line
of metal and graphite rupture disks and related overpressure protection products in the world. ZOOK
is capable of manufacturing, in it's own facilities, 100% of the rupture disk requirements of a
process plant. ZOOK manufactures a full line of rupture disk products including conventional
forward acting, scored forward acting, conventional reverse acting, scored reverse acting and
the revolutionary new Universal Reverse Acting (URA) disk designed for low to high burst pressures
suitable for liquid or gas service. This disk design offers true plant-wide standardization
previously unavailable with competitive offerings. In addition, we manufacture a complete line
of explosion vents and doors to service the material handling industries.
Our resources are dedicated to maintaining the best
emergency 'shut-down' delivery service in the industry. This service is
designed to allow a facility that is shut down by a rupture disk overpressure event,
to start-up within a minimal amount of time.
